History

The Department of Education for the Mentally Disabled was established in 2007 within the Faculty of Education building at Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University. The department admitted its first students during the 2020-2021 academic year. Our Education, Practice, and Research Center for Children with Intellectual Disabilities became operational following the establishment of the department in 2007.

The founding objective of our Research Center is to conduct theoretical and applied research at national and international levels regarding the rights-based promotion, protection, implementation, and development of disability through an interdisciplinary approach. The Center was established to collect information and documents, monitor processes, foster collaborations, create information networks, and engage in academic activities, all while ensuring that children with disabilities living in the province of Canakkale, along with their families and teachers, receive the highest quality of service in the areas they require.
